Sängerin, Songwriterin, Schauspielerin - Melbra Rai ist für all ihre Fans seit vielen Jahren eine nicht weg zu denkende Institution. Sie stellt eine kraftvolle, überzeugende Interpretin des Jazz, Blues, Soul und Gospel dar.
Melbra Rai wurde in Washington/ DC geboren wo sie auch aufwuchs. Das Studium an der "University of Southern California" (USC) schloss sie mit dem "Bachelor of Performing Arts" ab.
Anfang der 90er Jahre feierte sie in Paris ihre ersten europäischen Erfolge, wo sie auch Jazz-Artistin NINA SIMONE kennenlernte.
International wirkte sie zusammen mit MANU DIBANGO ("Soul Makassoa") und LOU BENNETT auf einer Tournee in Afrika (Kamerun) mit.
Unvergesslich bleiben ihre inspirierenden jährlichen Auftritte auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt am Kölner Dom.
Außerdem absolvierte sie in Deutschland viele Fernsehauftritte mit G.EMMERLICH, DIRK BACH und wirkte mit bei "Planet Wissen" und "Sonntag".
Neben ihren musikalischen Erfolgen bleibt sie ihrer zweiten Liebe, dem Theater, treu. Melbra verfasste ein biografisches Theaterstück über JOSEPHINE BAKER, DINAH WASHINGTON, MARTIN LUTHER KING JR und wirkte bei "HERITAGE" (Deutschland Tournee) mit. International hat sie zahlreiche Engagements in TV- und Festivalproduktionen und hatte Auftritte in diversen Theatern und Musikhäusern, darunter auch im Kunstsalon (mit Klaus dem Geiger) sowie in der Kölner Philharmonie.
Die Begegnung mit Nelson Mandela war der Höhepunkt in Melbra's Leben. Zu seinen Ehren schrieb sie ein Lied und brachte die CD "TRIBUTE TO NELSON MANDELA" heraus Beides konnte sie ihm persönlich in der Südafrikanischen Botschaft in Bonn überreiche.

Melbra Rai was born in Washington/ DC where she also spend the early years of her life. She pursued classes at the University of Southern California (USC) where she finished her studies with the Bachelor of Performing Arts.
In the early nineties she enjoyed her first European appearances in Paris where she met the jazz artist NINA SIMONE.
Internationally she had performances on a tour in Africa (Cameroon) with MANU DIBANGO ("Soul Makassoa") and LOU BENNET.
Her inspiring contributions on the annual Christmas Market at the Cologne Cathedral remain unforgettable.
Furthermore she had appearances in Germany at various TV-shows with GF:EMMERLICH, DIRK BACH and took part in presentations like "Planet Wissen" (science show) and "Sonntag" (Sunday).
Besides her musical ambitions she also pursued her other favorite dedication i.e the "Theater". Melbra wrote a biographical play for the theater dealing with the lives of JOSPHINE BAKER, DINAH WASINGTON, MARTIN LUTHER KING, and joined the German tour "HERITAGE". Internationally she had numerous appearances on TV- and other festival productions. She performed at various theaters and musical shows amongst which where the "Kölner Kunstsalon" (Cologne Art-Saloon) with "Klaus der Geiger" (Klaus- the Violin Player) and at the Cologne Philharmonie.
The unquestionable highlight of Melbra's Life became the meeting with Nelson Mandela. She dedicated a song and the CD " TRIBUTE TO NELSON MANDELA" to him, which both she could personally hand over to him at the South Africa Embassy in Bonn.
